6 Mistakes to Avoid When Choosing your House Cleaning Service

Mistake #1: Choosing A House Cleaner based on a nice looking website alone.

No question, your cleaning service should do their best to impress you with every chance they get, but a quality cleaning service needs more than just a fancy website. A local cleaning service is built on people. Hiring the right talent is 100% the most important aspect of delivering a quality cleaning service. It’s easy to pay money for a web developer, graphic designer, PR Firm, and craft a facade of quality around the business. It’s much harder to deliver that kind of quality direct to a customer day after day.

Mistake #2: Choosing a House Cleaner based strictly on price

Low price could be a problem in three ways: (1) As we’ve written about before, a low price might just be to get a foot in the door. Then you’re blind sided by high pressure sales tactics from a stranger in your living room (2) Low price might force the cleaner to rush. There’s a good chance the cleaner was told they are making a fixed amount no matter how long it takes them. If you are paying a steep discount, I can assure you that cut is being pushed on the cleaner. They’ll have no choice but to rush through the work out of sheer desperation (3) Low price means the company doesn’t value their own service. Price should demonstrate value. If the company doesn’t value themselves, why should you?

Mistake #3: Choosing a Hone Cleaner based on one phone call

Check out the company on YELP, Angie’s List, Thumbtack, and social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. While all companies don’t have the resources to be active with these things, browse through the listings they have. If the listings look like they are rarely updated, and thrown together in five minutes, this is telling for the business. Do as much homework about the service as you can before letting them in your home.

Mistake #4: Going with a House Cleaning Service that doesn’t offer any Guarantee

Any reputable cleaning service will back themselves 100%. There’s absolutely no reason why a company would not maintain at least a money back satisfaction guarantee. This should be industry standard and it’s crazy to think anybody would operate otherwise.

Mistake #5: Choosing a House Cleaner without a reference

A reference doesn’t need to be from a friend. The internet is a phenomenal resource for unbiased reviews of any service business. If you can’t find anything online about the company, tread lightly. See if you can get a phone number of some past clients.

Mistake #6: Choosing a Hone Cleaner who isn’t Insured

Cleaning techs are human. Mistakes can and do happen. While they are more common at some companies than others, there’s always a small chance that something breaks. Ask a very simple 4 word question before hiring anybody. “Do you have insurance?”. Staring out a shattered window is not the time to ask. There’s a ton of fly by night businesses out there hustling for some extra cash. A good portion of these people probably perform a great service, but I can assure you, anyone and everyone makes mistakes. Protect yourself.
